Mapping and Methods

Hi Folks,

I’m looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow morning. I think the ideas that Giacomo, Wilko, and Megan have shared sound great. I am especially interested in learning more about QGIS, CartoDB, and Google Maps.

I am also interested in learning how you all use technology to collect and organize historical information. I am a historical researcher at a research firm that specializes in environmental litigation. Many of our projects require the collection of diverse sets of data. I’d like to learn about how to best present this data in such a way that might identify larger historical themes. Is there something out there other than Excel?

See you all soon,

Stephanie

About Stephanie Milne-Lane

I have worked as a Project Coordinator and Researcher for Stevens Historical Research Associates (SHRA) since 2012. Originally from Washington state, I graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors from Eastern Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in History. I also hold a Master of Arts in Applied Historical Research from Boise State University, where I studied under Dr. Lisa Brady. I have conducted research at a wide variety of repositories, including multiple branches of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and The Huntington Library. SHRA’s diverse projects have required research and document analysis in natural resources, land use, water rights, navigability, and mining history. I have also drafted several expert reports that have been used in litigation and in nominating potential responsible parties (PRPs) in CERLA projects. I am a member of the Boise City Arts & History Advisory Team (AHAT), which provides input for the Boise City Department of Arts & History’s projects through review panels and special project teams.
